Astigmatism

<

Just like a camera, the eye has a cornea (viewfinder), the shape of which decides vision. Nearsighted corneas are steep or more curved, farsighted corneas are flatter and astigmatic corneas are shaped like a football (oval) as opposed to being shaped like a basketball (spherical). People with undetected astigmatism often have blurred vision which can be associated with fatigue, eyestrain, and blurred vision.

Dr. Gulani can diagnose astigmatism with a thorough eye exam using sophisticated diagnostic technologies like Pentacam, OPD analyzer, Automated Refractor and Ophtec vision systems. Astigmatism may in many cases be associated with other refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness).

Eyeglasses and contact lenses especially, Toric contact lenses (with astigmatism correction built in) may be used by patients and many have been told by their eye surgeons that they are not candidates for Lasik.

Dr.Gulani provides the entire spectrum of Laser surgeries to correct all levels of astigmatism and can even perform combination surgeries to customize treatment for each case individually.

Dr.Gulani teaches eye surgeons that astigmatism may exist by itself in patients but can also be associated with nearsightedness and farsightedness.

Also, Astigmatism can be associated with cataracts and therewith custom cataract surgery using Toric Lens implant can be used to free patients from glasses even in cataract age groups.

Thus using his skills as an ART , Dr. Gulani picks exactly what technique and technology he would like for each patient even if it involves combination surgery (ie. Cataract with Lasik, ICL with Lasik etc) to address astigmatism and help people reach their vision freedom.
